Once upon a time…
In 2013 three friends decided it was time to pool their talents and open a business together. Thus, Little Shoppes and South Market Antiques was started at 127 W. Main Street. The concept was unique; combine 2 distinct but complimentary businesses. Little Shoppes had 3000 square feet and over 20 vendors. Each vendor had a separate space to sell Boutique or Antique items. Selling everything from British food products to pet collars and leashes and ladies’ accessories.
South Market Antiques was 3000 square feet of midcentury modern, primitive Antiques and home decor items.
It was more than a coincidence, during the summer of 2017 when my friend Sara, my mom and I were strolling downtown little Washington and we just decided to enter this place. It was, indeed, one of a kind! Every booth had its unique personality and we couldspend hours just looking every piece.
I’d just launched my business a few months ago and this place had an opening for a booth. I got excited! I remember I met Jayne and asked her about it, we agreed, and I moved in with my few pieces to sell. I automatically was inserted in a little circle of very supportive and loving ladies.
After a successful run of 5 years their building was sold, and the ladies moved 2 blocks up Main Street to 223 W. Main. It was a big move. Although the new space was only 3000 square feet in total, which it was half of the current space, the concept remained the same.
With the help of some friends, the changes were made, the walls got painted, the spaces got divided, the displays were set, and Little Shoppes (along with some of their boutiques) and South Market Antiques were back in business!
As you walk into this shop, you will be pull into this unique eclectic style. On one side, you can find midcentury antiques, or just handmade wooden art. If you look the other way, you’ll be blown away by their unique collection of British items, and yes thatincludes original princess tiaras! You can also find toys that only your grandparents probably know how to use! If you’re visiting little Washington for the first time, this is THE place to find a souvenir. Don’t leave without your t-shirt or the magnet for your fridge. Now, if you love wine (of course, who doesn’t??) we have all the essentials. Are you looking for a last-minute gift? We got you! We offer Spa soap, hand lotion, shea butter, in so many different essences that you going to have to buy more than one because it’s going to be so hard to decide on only one! They smell sooooo good!! Silver forest earrings and necklaces, colonial candles and soy drizzle melts.
When I say they are an eclectic store, I mean it! Their wide range of products include their own jelly, jam and salsa brand!!
Little Shoppes and South Market Antiques has been an anchor store for downtown Washington since opening its doors. Specially the social impact they had created when they run their fundraising for local charities.
If you’re visiting for the first-time little Washington, this is a must stop. They are open 7 days a week. They welcome all pets, in fact, sometimes you’ll find a big black puffy dog taking a nap somewhere in there, his name is bear and he’s friendly withcustomers. He’s there selling his line of dog treats, bandanas, collars, leashes and everything you need for a furry friend.
Jayne Meisell, Pat Lewis and Rebecca Clark are friends and shop owners who love what they do. Everyone who knows these ladies know how much hard work has gone into making Little Shoppes and South Market Antiques a reference point for downtown Washington.
Come by any day and you will always find one of them there with a smile and a special sale or two!
